VOLAR

Felix da Housecat’s 2001 album, Kittenz and thee Glitz, turned the dance music world on its side as his collaborations with the now infamous Miss Kittin on “Silver Screen” and “Madame Hollywood” and Melistar on “Harlot” and “What Does it Feel Like” spawned a synth club revival. Along the way, Felix gained mainstream press acceptance and was heralded by Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and Spin as one of the most creative artists in music today.

With DEVIN DAZZLE AND THE NEON FEVER (2004, Emperor Norton), Felix once again has sewn together an album a la hip-hop’s Dan The Automator and Prince Paul which taps the talents of varied producers and vocalists and creates a thoroughly enjoyable ride. Boasting guest vocals from James Murphy of DFA/LCD Soundsystem (“What She Wants”) – “He’s a cool white boy with lots of funk,’ states Felix, Tyrone “Visionary” Palmer (“Ready to Wear,” “Neon Human”), Kate Wax, and an all-girl group known as The Neon Fever (“Rocket Ride,” “Short Skirts,” “Everyone is Someone in LA,” “Hunting Season”) Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever transcends simple dance, rock or pop music.

While Kittenz had it’s framework squarely built upon DJ and club culture, Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever is an album built upon punk/post new-wave culture and is deliberately more song oriented. To accomplish this Felix took a new approach. “I decided I wanted to use live musicians for this album,” Felix explains. “I got so tired of the arpeggiated bass lines everyone’s using, so I went out an got proper live musicians. I play keyboards because I really wanted to get a live feel for this record.”

Talking about some of the cast of characters he enlisted for the album, Felix relates how each had an effect on the superego of the album. The tracks on Devin Dazzle fluctuate between an upbeat spiritual side versus the temptations of the excess of nightlife under neon lights – partying and sex.

The Neon Fever (formerly known as Glamarama) represents the latter. “The Neon Fever are five girls from around the world that represent five different types of women,” states Felix, “I wanted to capture their individual personalities within the lyrics and make their voice a collective through each song. I wanted to capture the inside scoop of guys looking into a woman’s world. I think the result is some lyrics that aren’t what guys would typically write.”

Felix’s Kittenz cohort, Dave the Hustler, introduced Felix to Kate Wax. “I was real impressed with her because although she is a talented and impressive producer in her own right. She was willing to listen and work to improve with me. She’s real pretty and ambitious and for her to go with the vibe it was amazing. ‘Let Your Mind Be Your Bed’ is just the tip of the iceberg given her talent.”

“Tyrone ‘Visionary’ Palmer was the spiritual leader of the entire album and kept me writing about things that were meaningful. He brought a good balance to the record,” relates Felix.

Over the course of 20 years his determination and willingness to re-invent himself have led him to a point that has now included a Grammy nomination, remix work for artists such as Madonna, Garbage, New Order and Giorgio Moroder; to DJ gigs at the world’s most prestigious music festivals. Born in Detroit in 1971 and raised in Park Forrest, outside Chicago, Felix Stallings, Jr.’s earliest influence was his father, a saxophonist who turned him on to classic ’70s funk and soul by artists like Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire. His next major musical epiphany came about when Purple Rain dropped and he became the keyboardist for Shades of Blue, a band that covered Prince & the Revolution songs.

In Chicago during the early ’80s, the House music revolution grabbed Felix’s attention. For Felix, it centered around Chicago’s 102.7 and the pioneering Hot Mix DJs. “I remember listening to Farley ‘Jack Master’ Funk, Mike ‘Hitman’ Wilson, Micky ‘Mixin’’ Oliver, and Kenny ‘Jamming’ Jason,” Felix says rattling off the city’s House pioneers. By 14 he too was recording house music on his four-track. A school friend introduced him to DJ Pierre who he collaborated with on their classic house track “Phantasy Girl”.

Nick Warren

You can tell when Nick Warren’s on the decks. The music emanating from the man is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. On the floor, where it really matters, his crowd experience all the peaks and troughs that make his music so unique. Locking on early, you’ll hear his deeper take on house, which morphs, as the club mood changes, into harder territory, music for sweating and losing yourself to. And at that point when the light are low, when smoke fills the room and people are dancing on instinct, that’s when the melodies start to rise over the top, washing the worries and exertions of life away, completing the club experience. That’s why Nick Warren is so respected, because he knows how to truly work a club, and a crowd, delivering again and again. That’s what comes with vision and, just as importantly, experience.

Ferry Corsten.

Born 4 December 1973, Rotterdam City, The Netherlands.

The Dutch harbor city Rotterdam was Ferry Corsten’s (28) playground when growing up and the city still is his current base of operations. Being a full-time producer since 1991 Ferry has developed into a true prodigy of the international dance scene.

After initially producing some hardcore gabba tracks Ferry became more interested in clubhouse and trance. In 1996 Ferry achieved a position in the U.K. single chart at #46 with ‘Don’t be Afraid’ by Moonman, his first major and European breakthrough as a solo dance Artist, producer & composer.

In 1997 Ferry and his partner Robert Smit established the Tsunami dance label together with the Dutch based dance company Purple Eye Entertainment b.v.

This collaboration would prove to be an almost instant success and eventually resulted in the creation of one of the most influential dance labels around today. These three parties have set up in the meantime a new label called Polar State.

In February 1999 Ferry’s second solo project, system F, was released on the Tsunami imprint. The title ‘Out Of The Blue’ is a melodic and powerful twister and turned out to be one of the biggest trance track of 1999, achieved a top twenty position in the U.K. single chart and put Ferry on the world-wide dance map permanently.

Other projects of Ferry Corsten are: “Carte Blanche” by Veracocha (produced together with Vincent de Moor) and in May 1999 the title “Gouryella” by the act Gouryella was released, an Artist-project Ferry produces together with the famous Dutch DJ Tiësto. The first single “Gouryella” entered the U.K. Singles Top 75 at #15 and achieved various hit positions throughout the world. The follow-up of Gouryella, entitled “Walhalla” has been released worldwide. Furthermore Ferry remixed William Orbit’s ” Adagio for Strings” as well as “New Yearsday” for the famous band U2.

In October of 1999 Ferry Corsten has been elected as ‘Producer of the Year’ during the recent Ericsson Muzik Awards in London, leaving fellow-nominees like Puff Daddy and Rodney Jerkins behind.

Next to his producing activities Ferry is a renowned DJ in the U.K. and recently debuted at Inner City in Amsterdam, spinning in front of a record crowd. The U.K. dance compilation Trance Nation mixed by Ferry was recently awarded
the platinum status.

The follow-up single of system F, entitled ‘Cry’ took trance to a different level combining soulful vocals by Saskia Lie Atjam with his typical trance sound which characterize his productions and made him so famous. ‘Cry’ is produced by Ferry Corsten and Robert Smit and additional remixes are provided by Rank 1, Oliver Lieb and Ferry Corsten himself.

Ferry’s debut album entitled ‘Out Of The Blue’ by system F is completed and has been released in Holland on the 26th of March ,with further singles to be announced throughout this year. To kick things off the “Soul on Soul” track with Marc Almond will be the (3rd) international single and it is slated for release in the various territories in the next months.

The fourth single is “Dance Vallley theme 2001”, this single was especially produced for the Dance Valley festival. This festival is the biggest outdoor dance festival in the world, with over 80.000 visitors.

Richard Quitevis, aka DJ Qbert, grew up in the golden age of the San Francisco Bay Area DJ battle scene of the late 1980′s. Testing his skills amongst those who would become some of the most skilled disc jockeys on the planet. Battling and training in the artform is what sets DJ QBert apart from the rest. He is relentless in unlocking the sounds and systems of scratching. He has been ranked by his peers as the most skilled and the most important musician in the history of DJs. It is QBert who is credited for championing the turntable as a musical instrument.

A former DMC World Champion and DMC Hall of Fame inductee, DJ QBert has developed some of the most important works that have shaped the Hip-Hop and Electronic music landscape to what it is today. From the early beginnings, with the 1994 release of Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik, hailed by Source Magazine as the best mixtape of all time. To his innovations with his very own skratch records that set the stage for DJs to rebuild all their elements ready to manipulate through custom created vinyl. He created a DJ group to play pieces of his turntable band, giving rise to the Invisibl Skratch Piklz. In 1998, he released his album Wave Twisters, while immediately an animated film to sync with the music was drawn by legendary San Francisco artist Dug-1, drew the movie as he heard it. While in production of Wave Twisters the Movie, another film, Scratch, by director Doug Pray, was being filmed about the history and culture of the Hip Hop DJ, featuring DJ QBert as he is Knighted by GrandMixer DXT. Both films premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival.

In the musical technology circles, DJ QBert is the most sought after stamp of approval. His inventions for Vestax hold as today’s blueprints for turntablism. In 5 years, 5 different designs broke the 1 million sales mark, unheard of designing mixers above the $500 price tag, five times more than the price of battle mixers at the time. On the other side of the world, in an almost century history in the phonograph industry, Ortofon chose DJ QBert to represent the first needle ever made celebrating his achievement and design. DJ QBert’s last hardware concept was the QFO for Vestax, a lightweight all in one turntable and mixer combination. Limited to only a few thousand made, it set the explosion of portable musicianship for the digital disc jockey.

DJ QBert was also first to breakground for DJs in gaming. In 1998 EA Sports brought him in as the first turntablist to score several of their titles which led to the DJ/Producer invasion inside the gaming industry. QBert has been featured in Street Fighter 4, Frequency by Harmonix, Tony Hawk Underground by Activision, and rumors abound about his next projects with Activision for 2010.

Apple Computers with the comeback of Steve Jobs started series of smart and forward thinking ad campaigns and brought in the likes of Will Ferrell, Yo Yo Ma, Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, and the one and only DJ QBert. The campaign showed today’s influential contemporary’s who have made the switch from PC to Mac. It solidified Apple’s “cool” effect on it’s brand standing by leaders in their respective markets.

DJ QBert live performances are to be witnessed by jaw dropping fans in total standing about-face solidarity. Entire dancefloors stop and just amaze in the turntable wizardry that no other DJ can perform. Throughout his entire career, his style has never veered away to explore the current trends and the latest fads, but stay true to the skills of two turntables and a mixer, these are the official instruments of Hip-Hop.

DJ/producer/remixer SASHA is recognized as one of the worlds’ most innovative icons of the electronic genre.
Biography
It would be an understatement to call Britain’s Alexander Coe a DJ pioneer. As Sasha, he had led dance music since the late ’80s and has built a legacy that few, if any, DJs will ever match.

You could say that the world first noticed Sasha when Mixmag made him their cover star in 1991. It was the first time a DJ had ever been featured on a magazine cover. In a lead article titled Sasha Mania: The First DJ Pin-up?, a journalist wrote, “Whereas there have been plenty of star DJs before, Sasha is the first to be so successful precisely because of his DJing.”

Two decades on that statement still rings true. For all that Sasha has achieved – the seminal mix albums, the rock star tours, the enduring club anthems – it is his groundbreaking DJ moments that truly built his career. And there have been so many of them.

Take 1994′s ‘Renaissance: The Mix Collection’, the triple CD that Sasha mixed together with his longstanding DJ partner John Digweed. It was the world’s first commercial DJ mix CD and is now considered one of electronic music’s greatest ever recordings. “The first Renaissance CD really put myself and John [Digweed] on the map,” says Sasha. “It was the first time anyone had done a properly packaged mix compilation.”

Two years later Sasha and John Digweed produced another dance music milestone, the mix CD ‘Northern Exposure’, for Ministry of Sound. “That album was a chance for John and I to do something that was more about head music, a mix for after the clubs had finished,” Sasha says. “I don’t think anyone had done that before.” There is also the not so small matter of Sasha’s definitive 1999 mix CD, ‘Global Underground 013: Ibiza’. It is, quite simply, the best-selling DJ mix of all-time.

However, it is not just his decisive mix albums that made Sasha a global star. The British DJ has always been known for his magic touch behind the decks, ever since he began spinning records in the late ‘80s. It is an intangible quality – his extraordinary ability to light up dancefloors and entrance crowds – that made Sasha the original superstar DJ.

His habit of breaking new clubland boundaries also helped. He was the first DJ to tour America like a rock star. Delta Heavy, his 2002 USA tour with John Digweed, saw the duo embark on a gruelling 35-date bus tour with a full stage show. The mammoth gigs – in warehouses, theatres and arenas for crowds of up to 15,000 – made them household names in a country that was only just waking up to dance music.

Sasha’s revolutionary 2004 album ‘Involver’ also broke new ground. The mix CD, which consisted entirely of Sasha’s reworks of tracks by other artists, was his first major work after moving to a digital DJing platform. It defined his new DJ style – mixing at a molecular level. Indeed, he was so far ahead of the curve when he adopted the software program Ableton Live for his club sets that he had to design a custom controller, called the MAVEN, as no suitable technology existed on the market.

Sasha has never stopped pushing the frontiers of dance music. Today, he is excited by his new audio-visual show V_rtek, a large-scale DJ production that sees him perform whilst surrounded by huge L.E.D. screens. Every sound he plays is synchronised to animation and visuals, which provide a mesmerizing visual and sonic assault of the senses. “I use V_rtek when I want to make a big statement,” says Sasha. “We plan the shows meticulously, and there’s no hanging about with the music – it’s like the last hour of one of my five hour sets when everyone is already going bonkers. I re-edit all of the tracks that I play just for the set.”

Sasha has taken his explosive V_rtek show to major festivals like Big Day Out, Coachella, Glastonbury, and Good Vibrations, not that he is particularly concerned with reaching a mass audience. His regular Never Say Never events at Ushuaia, an under-the-radar beach bar in Ibiza, are a perfect example of his desire to remain rooted to dance music’s underground. “At Usuhaia in the summer of 2010 I got to cultivate a sound that I really loved,” he says. “The music was more of an after hours sound, very melodic and blissed out, and with it being at Usuhaia on an Ibiza beach, it felt very summery. It’s a sound very close to my heart, but at same time I still love the big sound of my V_ortek shows.”

This duality – this conflict between two sounds – has always existed in Sasha. For every headlining, peak-time set he plays at a major dance festival like Creamfields or South West Four, there is a five-hour Sasha journey at London’s Fabric, Tokyo’s Womb or New York City’s Cielo. “I’ve always had two sides to what I do because I’ve always tried to straddle that line,” he says. “When I was resident DJ at Twilo in New York with John, I was also resident at Fabric as part of Tyrant with Craig Richards and Lee Burridge, and no records crossed over those two residencies. At the time, I felt fully stretched musically and that’s when I really honed both sounds.”

What epitomizes Sasha more than anything though, is the fact that he never really fully jumped into the mainstream. “I never went for the commercial jugular, despite many opportunities,” he says. “When I made my name in the ‘90s doing piano break remixes for pop artists, I didn’t feel satisfied artistically and I chose a different path. That doesn’t mean to say that I wouldn’t be open to working on more commercial music, but I’d much prefer to remix an Arcade Fire or a Radiohead over a 50 Cent any day.”

Sasha’s magnificent dancefloor records overshadow his pop moments (notably remixes of Madonna, Seal, and D:Ream). His four-track EP ‘Xpander’ from 1999 is undoubtedly the zenith of his production career. The ambitious 11 minute lead track – an intoxicating mix of dark hypnotic melodies and spine-tingling trance – was voted by BBC Radio 1 listeners in 2011 as the third best dance track of all time. Sasha’s other famous club anthems include ‘Scorchio’, his 2000 collaboration with Underworld’s Darren Emerson, and ‘Wavey Gravy’, the hit single from his 2002 debut album ‘Airdrawndagger’.

Sasha’s debut longplayer is also considered by some to be one of electronic music’s most underrated works of genius. The 11-track opus played like a mystical voyage through the dark and beautiful side of dance music. As it moved quite brilliantly between poignant breakbeat, moving melodies, and deep four-to-the-floor grooves, it captured both his immense studio talents, and his ability to segue multiple genres, electronic rhythms and sounds into one epic piece of music.

Sasha will soon become a curator of quality dance music too. After a brief record label experiment (EmFire), Sasha will launch his own imprint this year called Last Night On Earth. The label will be Sasha’s home for supporting exciting new electronic music talent and his new solo productions. And surely, Sasha being Sasha, the label will be a resounding success.

How to explain his Midas touch though? Well Sasha answered that 20 years ago, in that first Mixmag article: “Seeing my face in a magazine is great, but the DJing is what it is all about”.

>>>>> GRANDMASTER FLASH <<<<<

Joseph Saddler (born , 1958 in Bridgetown, Barbados) better known as Grandmaster Flash, is an American hip hop musician and DJ; one of the pioneers of hip-hop DJing, cutting, and mixing. He is also a nephew to the great Former Feather Weight Champion of the World, the late Sandy Saddler. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, becoming the first hip hop/rap artists to be so honored.

Grandmaster Flash is set to appear in the video game DJ Hero as a playable character along with original mixes created for the game.

Biography

Saddler’s family migrated to the United States from the West Indies, and he grew up in the Bronx. He currently lives in the Morrisania section of the South Bronx. He became involved in the earliest New York DJ scene, attending parties set up by early luminaries. Learning from Pete Jones and Kool Herc, he used duplicate copies of a single record and two turntables (for cutting) but added a dexterous manual edit with a mixer to promote the break (the ordinary playing of the record would be interrupted to overlay the break, the break could be repeated by using the mixer to switch channels while the second record was spun back). He also developed the technique initially called cutting (which was developed by Grand Wizard Theodore into scratching) (AMG). Flash was also influenced by Grandmaster Flowers along with other early DJs.

Grandmaster Flash’s parents played an important role in his interest in music. His parents came from Barbados and his father was a big fan of Caribbean and black American records. As a child, Flash was fascinated by his father’s record collection, “My father was a very heavy record collector. He still thinks that he has the stronger collection. I used to open his closets and just watch all the records he had. I used to get into trouble for touching his records, but I’d go right back and bother them.” Murray Forman and Mark Anthony Neal’s book That’s the Joint describes how Flash’s entry into “cutting” came from this fascination with his father’s record collection as well as his mother’s desire for him to educate himself in electronics

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five

Main article: Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Flash played parties and also worked with rappers such as Kurtis Blow and Lovebug Starski. He formed his own group in the late 1970s, after promptings from Ray Chandler. The initial members were Cowboy (Keith Wiggins), Melle Mel (Melvin Glover) and Kid(d) Creole (Nathaniel Glover) making Grandmaster Flash & the 3 MCs (with Melle Mel being the first rapper ever to call himself an “MC”). Two other rappers briefly joined, but they were replaced more permanently by Rahiem (Guy Todd Williams, previously in the Funky Four) and Scorpio (Eddie Morris, also used the name Mr. Ness) to create Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Soon gaining recognition for their skillful raps, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five pioneered MCing, freestyle battles, and invented some of the staple phrases in MCing. The group performed at Disco Fever in the Bronx beginning in 1978. Cowboy created the term “Hip hop” while teasing a friend who had just joined the US Army, by scat singing the words “hip/hop/hip/hop” in a way that mimicked the rhythmic cadence of marching soldiers.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were signed to Bobby Robinson’s Enjoy Records and in 1979 released the classic “Superrappin’”. They later signed to Sugar Hill Records and released numerous singles, gaining a gold disc for “Freedom,” and also toured. The classic “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel”, released in 1981 was the best display of Flash’s skills (combining elements of Blondie’s “Rapture,” Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band’s “Apache,” Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Chic’s “Good Times”. It also marked the first time that record scratching had been actually recorded on a record. The group’s most significant hit was “The Message” (1982), which was produced by in-house Sugar Hill producer Clifton “Jiggs” Chase and featured session musician Duke Bootee. Other than Melle Mel, no members of the group actually appear on the record. Rahiem lip-synced Duke Bootee’s vocal in the music video. “The Message” went platinum in less than a month. In 1982, Flash appeared in the movie “Wild Style” and sued Sugar Hill over the non-payment of royalties. The group split between Flash and Mel before disintegrating entirely. Flash, Kid Creole and Rahiem signed to Elektra Records and continued on as simply “Grandmaster Flash” while Mel and the others continued on as “Grandmaster Melle Mel & the Furious Five.” In 1984, Mel released a 12″ single, “White Lines (Don’t Don’t Do It)” which went on to become one of his signature songs. Although frequently credited on the records, Flash doesn’t actually appear on “The Message”, “White Lines (Don’t Do It)”, or many of the other Furious Five songs (if you don’t hear scratching on a track, then Flash isn’t on it). Mel notably appeared on Chaka Khan’s “I Feel for You” becoming the first rapper ever to win a Grammy Award for “Record of the Year”. He also appeared in the film “Beat Street” performing “Beat Street Breakdown” in the grand finale. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five reformed in 1987 for a charity concert, and in 1988 to release an album that did poorly. Melle Mel closed out the decade by winning two more Grammy awards for his work with Quincy Jones. There was another reunion, of a kind, in 1994, although Cowboy died in 1989.

Grandmaster Flash has a clothing line, “G.Phyre”, and has signed a deal with Doubleday who will publish his memoirs. He hosts a show on Sirius Satellite Radio & he was recently presented with the BET “I Am Hip Hop” Icon award.

Melle Mel (now known as Mele Mel) has a clothing line with Sedgwick & Cedar. He released the children’s book/CD/DVD “Portal In The Park” in November 2006 and he released his first ever solo album “Muscles” on January 30, 2007. The first single and music video is “M3 (The New Message)”, released on the 25th anniversary of “The Message”.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were the first hip-hop/rap group ever inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007 by Jay-Z. In 2008, he remixed the single “Into the Galaxy” by the Australian group, Midnight Juggernauts.

It has been said that “his pioneering mixing skills transformed the turntable into a true ‘instrument’, and his ability to get a crowd moving has made his DJ sets legendary.”

On stage, clad in his trademark white, he is impossible to miss. Wireless keyboard in one hand, an ever-ready clutch of his own productions in the other, his live crowd-interacting performances have brought an entirely new experience for club and festival goers worldwide. In 2010 this unequalled approach was reflected in DJ Magazine`s Top 100 chart, when he re-entered its top 50 for a third year running, landing at #34. As a music producer he`s scaled the heights of national charts and with 6 artist albums & compilations released in the last 3 years alone. He is very possibly the most prolific trance musician working today. He is Roger Shah…

Early History:
Born in Esslingen in southern Germany, Roger started to hit his production stride in 1999, putting out the tracks `Claps`, `The Mission` & `Tides of Time`. In 2003 his `High` release was signed by Virgin Records imprint Nebula. This marked his first non-domestic release and over the course of the next 5 years he inked productions to a range of heavy-hitting trance labels – Anjunabeats, VANDIT & Black Hole among them.

The Armin Connection:
In 2007 Armin named Shah`s `Who Will Find Me` as his favourite track of that year. Having heard the demo of its follow up, Van Buuren saw significant crossover potential in the track and made contact early in 2008 to ask if Shah would like to collaborate on it. The result was the Chris Jones vocalled `Going Wrong`… A top 5 smash in The Netherlands national charts, the track went on to become one of the biggest selling trance singles of the year. From there Magic Island Records – Shah`s primary label – moved from his own stable to that of one of industry-leading Armada Music.

Magic Island Records:
An imprint for both Roger`s own material and that of likeminded producers, Magic Island releases have quickly become fixtures in the CDJs of some of the world`s biggest spinners. Notable up and coming names like Ralph Fritsch, DJ Cosmo, Kim Svard and Walsh & McAuley have all put out productions on the label. In December 2010 it celebrated its 50th release with Kim Svard`s `Manne`s Song`.

`Songbook`:
The quickest produce of the Magic Island/Armada deal was Roger`s first artist album, `Songbook`. Well received by both press and fans alike, it was much praised for its innovative dual club mix and acoustical version approach. Singles taken from it like `Don`t Wake Me Up`, `Going Wrong` & `Who Will Find Me` (a Top 20 ASOT Tune of the Year in 2008) proved to be particularly popular. The follow-up to `Songbook` is currently slated for Q2, 2011.

Live & DJ Performances:
In late 2008 Shah changed his artist name, dropping the `DJ` prefix and revising it to Roger Shah. This move signalled a move away from straightforward DJ sets, which he`d found increasingly inhibiting. Numerous countries around the world have subsequently played host to the performances. Hot-spots like Sydney, Ibiza, Argentina, Poland & India have been rocked, with Roger performing at tent-pole events including the ASOT400, I Love Kiev, Gatecrasher`s NYE & Judgement Sundays. In October of 2010 Shah sold-out a solo, 4000 capacity event for Foro Corona in Mexico, where he played for six hours, incorporating 65 of his tracks and 18 live performances into the night.

Pseudonyms & Side Projects:
In addition to his own-name tracks, Roger has also produced under a myriad of other aliases. Notable among them are his `pka` DJ Shah, High Noon at Salinas, Magic Island & Savannah. Shah is also one half of the Anjunabeats released act Purple Moods, Black Hole project Global Experience and ASOT`s Black Pearl, whose `06 – `11 spanning singles `Coral Sea`, `Java`, `Bounty Island`, `Rise` & `Discovery` generating much additional interest in Shah`s solo productions.

Sunlounger:
Sunlounger is without doubt Roger`s best known nom de plume. It was under this handle that he released the `Another Day on The Terrace` long-player in 2008. It reached No.1 on Dutch iTunes` `all-music-genres` chart and spawned four singles (`In & Out`, `Aguas Blancas`, `Crawling` & `White Sand`). The project become so celebrated that Roger expanded Sunlounger into a live act – a performance of which was featured on Armada`s ArminOnly DVD. It was this experience that he credits with being the catalytic point of his move to live Roger Shah performances. In 2009 Roger released the Sunlounger follow-up `Sunny Tales`, with progeny singles included `Catwalk`, `Mediterranean Flower`, `Change Your Mind`. It also contained the much-revered `Lost` – a track that took the illustrious `Single of 2008` title on the A State of Trance radio show. Most recently his third album outing under the name, `The Beach Side of Light` (released in autumn 2010) brought 12 more sun-kissed tracks to fans, including collaborations with vocalist including Zara Taylor, Inger Hansen & Antonia Lucas.

`Magic Island: Music For Balearic People` − The Compilations:
Roger`s compilation series has so far seen three outings (2007, 2008 & 2010). Encapsulating everything Roger stands for musically, their intrinsically White Island trance sound has sound-tracked an uncountable number of clubbers holidays. Roger typically uses the compilations as first-listen holders for future singles & collaborations with Vol.3 including team-ups with Signum, Leon Bolier and Tenishia.

`Magic Island: Music For Balearic People` − The Radio Show:
Broadcasting weekly, Magic Island – Music For Balearic People is a 2 hour radio show carried by the famous DI-fm station and is currently being syndicated to many other countries, most recent additions including Mexico and Jordan. Presented by Roger every Friday between 21.00 GMT (22:00 CET), it showcases a combination of melodic trance in the first hour, with the 2nd focusing on Balearic, chillout and Dream trance.

Remixes:
Shah has reworked tracks for legendary vocalists like Sarah McLachlan and Nadia Ali. He`s also remixed tunes for a litany of trance-masters including Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Mark Norman, York, Cosmic Gate, Josh Gabriel, Johan Gielen, System F, The Thrillseekers, Solarstone, Three Drives, Matt Darey & Oceanlab. Most recently Roger has rewired Andain`s `Beautiful Things `10` and Richard Durand`s `Always The Sun`.
